Manufacturing

Growth here is measured in qualified requests for quotation.

The three places growth usually leaks in manufacturing

  1. Most inquiries are too small or not a fit, and engineers spend time quoting them.
  2. The catalog is a PDF that buyers cannot search.
  3. New business depends on a few people’s contacts.

These are the first things we test, not findings about your business.

A manufacturing marketing agency helps a plant, fabricator or component maker receive requests for quotation that fit its capacity, tolerances and minimum order, so engineers quote work the business wants. Tessmont builds that system and reports it in Command as qualified requests for quotation by product line.

Who is looking for a manufacturer like me, and how?

The buyer is usually a procurement manager, a design engineer or a founder of a product company. They search by process, material and specification, not by company name: a machined part in a particular alloy, a molded component, a contract run of a packaged product. Many of them shortlist on the website before making contact, and the first inquiry is often sent to several suppliers at once.

That buyer wants to confirm three things quickly: can this plant make it, to what standard, and at what order size. A website that answers those questions early earns the request.

Why do we spend so much time quoting jobs we do not want?

When the website and listings say only what the company makes, every buyer with a related need sends a request, including tiny prototype runs, unsuitable materials and parts outside the machine range. Each one takes engineering time to assess.

The approach is to state capability plainly on each product-line page: processes, materials, tolerances, certifications, minimum order and lead time, and to add two or three qualifying questions to the request form. The hypothesis the first review tests is whether the share of requests worth quoting rises when buyers can rule themselves out.

Is our PDF catalog enough?

A PDF catalog works well once a buyer has it in hand. It works poorly for being found, because search engines and buyers on a phone struggle to read it, and it rarely says who the product is for.

The work converts the catalog into searchable product-line pages, each with its specifications in text, drawings or photos, and a request route. The PDF stays available as a download for procurement files.

How do we grow beyond the founders' contacts?

Many manufacturers were built on relationships, and those still matter. The risk is that new business stops when those people are busy or retire. The plan adds routes that do not depend on one person: search, industry directories that buyers actually use, trade show follow-up and account-based outreach to named target companies, all tracked in Command so the owner can see which routes produce qualified requests.

What the first ten days produce

  1. Choose the product lines to lead with and list, for each, the capability facts a buyer checks first.
  2. Review the last batch of requests for quotation with the engineering head and mark which were worth quoting and why.
  3. Add qualifying questions to the request form and set Command to report requests by product line and qualified share.

Do you work with contract and job-work manufacturers?

Yes. For contract manufacturers the product-line pages become capability pages, organized by process and industry served, and proof comes from the kinds of work done rather than named customers.

Can you help with export buyers?

Yes. Export buyers look for certifications, documentation and shipping terms early, so those move to the front of the pages, and the reply route covers other time zones.

Do you attend trade shows for us?

No. The work plans the pre-show outreach and the follow-up after the show, which is where many trade show contacts go cold, and Command tracks what each show produced.
